Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory is easily one of the most impressive Xbox titles. Featuring incredible graphics and sound to accompany the exciting stealth missions. Splinter Cell is obviously a hit videogame series when you look at the numbers and more importantly, what people are saying. Chaos Theory is no different.
Great Game without a lot of Change
What's interesting is that the overall game really hasn't changed much besides adding in more complex maneauvers. While that would be a drawback, it is also a complement because there isn't much to add/change in this type of game and they did a great job with it the first time through. One thing, however, that is changed this time around is with the alarms. You are able to set off as many alarms as you need to in order to complete your mission. Also, where the second Splinter Cell added in multiplayer, this third one includes co-op.
While the game still feels pretty much the same, it's still fun to play if you enjoyed the previous ones. Since you don't have to worry about alarms, they allow you the freedom of getting through certain areas in multiple ways. While this does help the game for those that weren't into the others completely, it still has the same general feel. So while the single player mode is still enjoyable, there are not a whole lot of changes from the previous versions.
The Best Looking Xbox Game
As I mentioned, Splinter Cell Chaos Theory is the probably
the best looking console game. In fact it's a shame when
some areas are too dark and require some night vision because
you will be missing out on some amazing detailed environments.
This is simply an all-around great looking game. You should
also notice how good the facial expressions look. Animations
are very smooth and natural looking. I can't wait to see
what next-gen Splinter Cell will look like!
Great Sound as Well
Of course sound plays another role in Chaos Theory. As such,
the did another excellent job with the game's sound. Everything
is nice and realistic sounding. One part I liked was on
board a ship and getting close to this one cabin, you can
hear slightly muffled music being blasted. Open the door
and you can hear the music clearly. Good sound as well as
a nice realistic touch of having one of the bad guys resting
in his room with music blaring. The voice-overs are fairly
well-done as well. Those with a nice surround sound setup
will appreciate this game even more.
Sign on to Xbox Live
Multiplayer is a great feature for Splinter Cell. Chaos
Theory allows for Co-Op via split-screen, system link or
Live. Playing co-op is a great way to play through the game
with an added kick. There are also several co-op moves available
to perform. Of course if you don't want co-op play, you
can also go the route of versus mode. If you want to take
on others in a match of 2 vs 2, there are 3 modes available
online. You can do story mode (where there are objectives
for each team), Disk Hunt Mode (sort of like a capture-the-flag),
and the familiar deathmatch. Considering it is a stealth
game, having teams of 7 going against each other wouldn't
go well with the game. What the game delivers online works
well with just 2 vs 2.
Overview
Chaos Theory looks and sounds incredible as well as plays well. Though there have been a few changes to gameplay, the game is still mostly the same as it has been. The multiplayer aspect certainly brings plenty to the table, especially co-op. All-in-all, Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory is a can't miss for those that enjoy this stealth series.
